While Covid has shaken much of human society, the threat posed by global warming has not gone away.
Until recently, humans did not significantly affect the much larger forces of climate and atmosphere. Many scientists believe, however, that with the dawn of the industrial age—and the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas , and oil—humans began to significantly add to the amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, enhancing the planet's natural greenhouse effect and causing higher temperatures. The Industrial Revolution began in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Great Britain when manual labor began to be replaced by machinery fueled by new sources of energy.
Its outcome resulted in technological innovations, growth in machinery, urbanization, and transportation for the society of the s-early s. It is almost impossible to imagine what the world would be like without the impact and effects of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a time period of creations and new beginnings. Inventions during the Industrial Revolution changed the way people worked to a more efficient way with the use of machines. Locomotives, railroads, and steamboats were all major inventions and industries throughout the American Industrial Revolution.
In the early days of the Industrial Revolution, no one would have thought that their burning of fossil fuels would have an almost immediate effect on the climate. But our new study, published today in Nature , reveals that warming in some regions actually began as early as the s. That is much earlier than previously thought, so our discovery redefines our understanding of when human activity began to influence our climate. Determining when global warming began, and how quickly the planet has warmed since then, is essential for understanding how much we have altered the climate in different parts of the world. Our study helps to answer the question of whether our climate is already operating outside thresholds that are considered safe for human society and functional ecosystems. Our findings show that warming did not develop at the same time across the planet.

Models that account only for the effects of natural processes are not able to explain the warming observed over the past century. Models that also account for the greenhouse gases emitted by humans are able to explain this warming. Click the image to view a larger version. When incoming energy from the sun is absorbed by the Earth system, Earth warms. When absorbed energy is released back into space, Earth cools.
Throughout its long history, Earth has warmed and cooled time and again. Earth has experienced climate change in the past without help from humanity. But the current climatic warming is occurring much more rapidly than past warming events. These natural causes are still in play today, but their influence is too small or they occur too slowly to explain the rapid warming seen in recent decades. Some of this warming will occur even if future greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, because the Earth system has not yet fully adjusted to environmental changes we have already made.

Instrumental records from land stations and ships indicate that global mean surface air temperature warmed by about 0. The warming trend is spatially widespread and is consistent with the global retreat of mountain glaciers, reduction in snow-cover extent, the earlier spring melting of ice on rivers and lakes, the accelerated rate of rise of sea level during the 20th century relative to the past few thousand years, and the increase in upper-air water vapor and rainfall rates over most regions. A lengthening of the growing season also has been documented in many areas, along with an earlier plant flowering season and earlier arrival and breeding of migratory birds.
Technology developed rapidly, science became advanced, and the manufacturing age came into view. With all of these came one more effect, industrial pollution. Earlier, industries were small factories that produced smoke as the primary pollutant. However, since the number of factories were limited and worked only a certain number of hours a day, the levels of pollution did not grow significantly. But when these factories became full-scale industries and manufacturing units, the issue of industrial pollution started to take on more importance.
Climate change is one of the most important environmental issues at the national and global levels, given its economic, social and environmental impacts. This issue has received considerable and early attention in the UAE and the country has exerted numerous efforts to address the effects of climate change and to adapt to its potential impacts on ecosystems and economic sectors. In line of these efforts, the UAE has adopted important policies, including the economic diversification policy, focusing on green economy, energy sources diversification policy, focusing on renewable and clean energy and promoting energy efficiency, sustainable transport policy, sustainable urban planning, etc. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with its partners in the public and private sectors, is working to bolster efforts to deal with climate change, in terms of mitigation and adaptation, through the National Climate Change Plan , adopted by the Cabinet in June , and the National Climate Change Adaptation Program, adopted at the first annual meeting of the UAE Government in September , in addition to other relevant policies and programs. - Qu'est-ce… quelle heureest…
